City Beach Pounders

26th August 2003

Spring is sprung
The Grass is riz
I wonder where the Pounders is

That's right sportsfans, spring is almost here and its time to start thinking about paddling again. A few of us have been paddling at 6.15 am on Monday and Friday at Claremont Jetty (in between bouts of the flu) for an hour and apart from the really foul mornings the river is fantastic. The ideal place to brush up your skills, get onto a fibreglass or just get rid of a bit of that winter fat. Wednesday evening may also be a go for some at say 5.00pm as it is now light to after 6.00pm.

Sundays at 9.00am at City is also happening, but on some days it depends on your bravery/comfort zone. If the weather's foul then you can also try the paddling ergo in the gym (not that I've been into the Gym, I understand from others that we have such a machine.)

This year we will be running beginner classes on Saturday morning. Given the lack of skis we will need all the club skis for the beginners. Please spread the word as it would be nice if every active Pounder introduced someone new to the clan. I will need someone to help me load the skis at the club and run the session so any volunteers please ring (0403 385 051)

Mike Langdale is running the newsletter this year, and has started in great style. Any information, gossip, ramblings etc please send to Mike.

The mythical brains trust is working on a paddling calendar - events like the bridge to bridge, Bay to Beach and some of the canoe association events on the river are good fun - stay tuned.

I am looking forward to catching up with you all again and hopefully our group will grow as we all introduce a friend to the wonderful world of pounding. (ps Caps have been ordered, expect arrival in October)
