City Beach Pounders

4th April 2003

As mentioned in the last newsletter there is a corporate/teams paddle on the 25th May 2003 between Garret Rd Bridge, Bayswater and Sandalford Estate, Caversham organised by Canoe WA. Canoe WA have been excellent supporters of the Pounders, lending us their cross trainers most Saturday mornings throughout summer and it would be nice to repay them by supporting this event. Details are:
Registration:from 7.30 am at Garret Rd Bridge
Start:from 9.00 am - slower classes first
Distance:Single - 18 kms
Corporate - 4-5 kms each
Categories:Single surf ski
Double surf ski
Plastic under 4.5 m (i.e. cross trainer)
Plastic over 4.5 m (i.e. Spirit racing plastic)
Age Groups:under 18, male and female
Open, male and female
Over 45, male and female
Corporate Challenge:team of 4 either in the under 4.5m class or over 4.5m class (one ski over 4.5 m means you are in the over 4.5m class)

Ken has the entry forms and the closing date is 16th May 2003, cost for a single is $30 and a team $120. It would be nice to do this in style and organise a bus so we can have a good barbecue at Sandalford (even though there wine is not as good as Xanadu) and a safe trip home. Please let Ken know ASAP if you want to paddle as single, double or team so I can organise transport and make sure we have enough ski's to go round.

Bridge to Bridge 4th May 2003

The Fremantle Bridge to Narrows Bridge Perth (12 kms) is on 4th May 2003 and would be a great warm up for anyone looking paddling the full 18 kms in Bayswater to Caversham. Registration is at Gil Fraser Reserve East Fremantle (scene of UFC's mighty grand final victory in f grade 1982 - see Ken after 3 beers for full story) from 7.30 with start briefing at 8.30 am. Every one can look after themselves for this one, but please check with Ken if you want to use a club ski. Full details are on www.canoewa.asn.au under marathon series.
