It is the policy of the City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club to encourage all members and visitors to adopt safe and healthy practices throughout by:
- Refraining from smoking
- Responsible use of alcohol
- The complete non-use of illicit and performance enhancing drugs, and
- Mandatory use of safety in the sun practices.
The Club will encourage all members to adopt risk management practices that prevent injury to themselves and other members at all times, including the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the serving and consumption of nutritious food.
The club will achieve compliance with this Policy through the following procedures:
SMOKING
- All areas of Club premises that the Cluub is responsible for, including open areas, change rooms and so on will be smoke free at all times.
- No tobacco products will be sold on the premises and non-smoking signage will be displayed throughout.
ALCOHOL
- The club will not encourage excessive consumption of alcohol, and as a result no happy hours, drinking competitions and the like will be allowed.
- Compliance with the Liquor Licensing Act 1998 will be strictly adhered to with appropriate training provided for the responsible Manager.
- A range of low alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks will always be predominantly displayed.
DRUG USE
- The Club will abide by Surf Life Saving WA Doping Drugs Policy
- Educate members through the delivery of Drugs in Sport information by access to courses conducted by Surf Life Saving WA.
SUN PROTECTION
- The Club will, where possible, schedule activities for other than patrol responsibilities outside the hours of 10.30am and 2.30pm.
- Where possible, and on a reasonable basis, provide access to sunscreen with SPF rating of not less than 30+ to all members.
- Incorporate sun protection education in all training courses delivered by the Club and in all induction procedures.
- Ensure that all coaches, officials and officers of the Club to be role models in respect of sun protection.
- Provision of shade facilities for patrolling members.
SAFETY
- Provide instruction and training whre possible to all coaches and officers of the Club in appropriate risk management techniques in relation to surf life saving activities.
- Ensure appropriate collection of medical information for each member following full permission from the member and ensureing that all relevant coaches and officials of the Club are conversant with an individual member’s medical requirements.
- The Club will ensure that all private information of members will be stored securely and that the information will only be used within the strict requirements of privacy laws.
- The Club will adopt and develop as soon as practicable an appropriate emergency response plan in relation to the Club’s responsibilities and activities at City Beach.
HEALTHY FOOD
- On a responsible basis and where reasonably practicable to do so, the Club will ensure tha where it prepares food for members it will be nutritious and healthy.
