Heidi Makes Olympic Team
June 21, 2012

Heidi Gan has swum her way to Olympic history in the chilly waters of Setubal Bay in Portugal where she recently earned her ticket to represent Malaysia in the women's 10km open water swimming at the London Olympics.

Heidi's achievement in joining an elite field of 25 swimmers gathering in Hyde Park for the Olympics is remarkable as she is a relative newcomer to the gruelling Olympic discipline. At the recent Surf Life Saving State Titles, Heidi won a swag of medals in her first year for the club, including three gold in team events.

In a recent interview, Heidi spoke of her enjoyment as a member of the surf club."Thanks for all the well wishes and support from everyone! City's a great club and I've really enjoyed getting back into surf this season and meeting everyone. I'm really looking forward to representing City at States and Aussies next year, and hopefully going around all the right cans this time."

Heidi will be the third City member to compete at the Olympics, along with Todd Pearson (2000 and 2004) and Lisa Oldenhof (2004 and 2008).

The club wishes Heidi all the best for her Olympic adventure and we look forward to seeing her back on the beach in summer.
