Earlier this month City Life Member Kevin Riley passed away. Although not seen around the club in recent years, he was a major contributor to our history.

HK (Kevin) Riley MBE JP joined the City club in 1937 and went on to a long and distinguished volunteer career in surf life saving. His major City positions were club captain 1 year; Vice President 3 years; President 4 years. He was a member of the State Champion Cadet R & R in 1940. In 1976 Kevin was the Head Instructor in the City of Perth Bali Instructional Team.

At State level Kevin was an active member of the Board of Examiners for over 30 years. He was Board Secretary for 1 year; Deputy Superintendent for 3 years and Superintendent for a record 13 years. Kevin then moved to the position of State President for 3 years. Over a three year period from 1961 to 1963 Kevin was Manager-Instructor of the WA State Team.

In 1972 Kevin was Assistant manager/Instructor in the Australian Representative Team to New Zealand, and was a member of the Educational and Competitive Team to the World Congress in South Africa 1974.

Kevin was the first West Australian to hold a Referee position at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, a task he carried out successfully over many years. From 1966 until 1979 Kevin served as a member of the Surf Life Saving Australia National Council.

He was elected a City of Perth Life Member in 1956, a State Life Member in 1963 and was awarded Life Membership of the Australian Association in 1966. Kevin was recognised in the Queen's Honours with the receipt of an MBE.
