The 2010 State Championships continue and our First Aid competition teams swept the gold medals available on Saturday, winning all four divisions. First Aid competition tests competitors working in pairs by throwing them into an emergency situation and judging them on how they handle the many injured people they are confronted with. The gold rush began with the Under 15 event, which was won by Shelby Warren and Caterina Sullivan. We had three teams in the Under 17 division, and the gold was won by last year's Under 15 champs, Honor Lane and Chantelle Green. Last year's Under 17 title holders Mundawae Sanderson-Green and Roshann Davies were left in second place, while Shelby Warren and Katherine Law came in fourth. Mundy and Roshann took their revenge pretty quickly when they won the Under 19 competition - with Honor and Chantelle this time having to settle for silver. Mundy and Roshann then completed a remarkable day by winning another gold in the Open event, with Natalie Law and David McRae finishing fourth. On Sunday morning, the R&R and Belt Race events were held. The City senior R&R team won the coveted Open Six Person event, ending Trigg's run of four in a row, and also qualified for the final of the Open Mixed 5 Person event which will be held at Secret Harbour on the main State Championships weekend. We also had some new teams in the younger age groups at the R&R events. Our Under 15's finished fourth, while the Under 14's won a bronze medal in their Five Person events. Our three Under 13 Two Person teams also performed strongly, finishing in second, third and fourth positions. Simon Huitenga was the club's sole representative in the Belt Races, and in a desperately close finish where the first three hands went up within a single second was awarded third place. This Sunday the Champion Patrol teams will compete, with the rest of the Championships to take place the following weekend. |
