The club lost another legend this week, with the passing of Life Member Ric "Doggo" Roberts. ![]() 1967 Ironman Champion Ric held the club Champion Lifesaver title for seven consecutive seasons, from 1962-63 to 1968-69 as well as winning two State championships in the event, and coached the Junior R&R to a silver medal at the 1960 Australian Championships - the first time the club won a medal competing outside WA. In 1967 he became the state's first Ironman champion. As well as his contribution to City, Ric was instrumental in the setting up of several other clubs in WA, from Esperance to Broome and several in between. Ric was made a Life Member of City of Perth in 1974, a Life Member of Surf Life Saving Western Australia in 1991, and a Life Member of Surf Life Saving Australia in 2008. |
