Cadet Camp
November 7, 2009

For the first time for some years the U/14s and 15s opened the season with a camp, from Friday the 30th of October to Sunday the 1st of November.

This year we were lucky enough to go to the Woodman Point Recreation Camp, a perfect place for Halloween as Woodman Point was formerly an isolation hospital.

When we first arrived at camp, we settled in and had dinner - fish (everyone's favourite) - before we were allocated into our six groups. Then we were ready for our first activity, escape from quarantine. This was a cross between spotlight and a treasure hunt. When we were caught moving in the beam of a torch, cunningly wielded by our parents, we had to return to the courtyard and prove we were insane, which as some parents put it, came naturally to most of us.

Some people had more difficulty getting up than others. The next morning we were woken up by Janelle at 6:30 for our beach run, and if that wasn’t bad enough, our loving parents decided that it would be fun to have a relay race.

Soon after breakfast we sorted into two groups to begin the day's activities. For the first group, it was off to The Cube to have some fun abseiling, working our way through the vertical challenges and having a go on the flying fox. For the second group it was time for surf boat, surf skis and a go in the I.R.B. After lunch we swapped.

Following dinner was what everyone had been looking forward to, and working really hard on, our Halloween talent show. Our six groups had some fun acting, dancing and munching our way through our prizes.

The next day, Sunday, we enjoyed our second beach run before breakfast. When got back and we had finished eating breakfast it was time to clean up our dorms and pack up all of our things. We had SOOO much fun sweeping the floors of the thick coating of sand, and mopping the bathrooms, that the cleaning was over before it started, not.

After our extremely fun cleaning experience, we completed our requalifications. We returned to the dorms to realise that because we had just cleaned the bathrooms, we couldn't have showers. We then trooped of to the dining hall for our final meal, lunch, at camp.

Once everyone had finished eating and cleaning up after lunch, we dragged all our bags back to the buses and cars, finally ready to return home. After arriving at the club, we all helped to clean the bus and unload the skis and put them away. When everything was put away, it was finally time to drive home and have our first decent shower for the whole weekend.

We would like to thank all of the people who made this weekend happen, by volunteering their time or organising the whole weekend. Without you none of us would have had so much fun.

THANKYOU!
