Will Dwyer opened the City medal count for the 2009-10 State Championships with a gold in the boardriding events held last weekend.
After the original competition date had to be postponed for lack of swell, a fortunate break in the westerly storms that were battering the coast allowed the event to go ahead on Sunday.
Having won the Under 15 gold last year, Will moved up to the Under 17 competition this time around. Some smart surfing in the final, excellent positioning and wave choice and "milking" all three of his rides all the way to the beach, saw Will win the gold again.
