Lisa Oldenhof is bringing home a bronze medal from the Beijing Olympics.
Australia have never medalled before in the women's K4 event, with the sixth placing at Athens the previous best Olympic result.
The Australian crew got off to a slowish start as the Germans flew out early, chasing their fourth consecutive gold in the event.
In the second half of the race the Australians began to move through the field. Like the semi-final, it was the tightest possible finish. While the Germans crossed clearly in front followed by the Hungarian crew, the Aussies and Poland were again neck and neck, but this time Australia managed to get across in front and claim the bronze medal.
