Boardriding Championships
17th July 2008

Last Saturday 17 club members rolled up in the winter conditions to compete in the 2008-09 State Board Riding Championships.

The highlight of the day was the introduction of the Teams Riding event. Our "Power surfer" Todd Bowler surfed three great waves to score high points with the rest of the team surfing two waves. Ben Carrick, masters men Greg Mickle and Luke George and Club President Grant Trew surfed well to win our team a Silver medal.

Others competing in the Open Men's event including Eddie Gibbs, Jesse George and James Cohen. JC seemed to prefer the warmer water conditions of Bali!

In the over 30's Longboard event President Grant Trew brought home the bacon with a Gold and Todd Bowler a Silver.

In the over 40's Longboard event Greg Mickle won Gold after a tough fight with second placegetter Colin Mustoe (Scarboro).

Our Under 15's boys kept the points coming with Will Dwyer surfing well for a Gold and Zak Walker for Bronze.

The Under 17's also competed well with out new member Jade Whitehead winning a Silver and Estelle coming 4th. Jordan Haynes-Love also competed and just got knocked out by half a point.

The Under 19's girls surf board riding event new member Shinade Whitehead won Gold for City.

Jen Mickle was our only Female Masters competitor and surfed well to earn us points along with Wal Walker who finally competed at 4pm after a 7am start!

Special thanks go to Eddie for organising the tent, coffee and hot soup!
