More Gold To City At Lifesaving Champs
4th March 2008

The 2008 State Championships continued on the weekend with the running of the lifesaving events, and City won more gold in the Champion Patrol and First Aid events.

Saturday's events began with the R&R, and the City senior teams in the Open 6, Open Mixed 5, Women's 5 and Under 17's had high hopes of success. It turned out to be one fo those days, however, and every team finished in second place.

We also had two beginner teams contesting the Under 14 event, who finished in fourth and sixth places.

In the afternoon, the Open Champion Patrol team of Grant Trew, Stephen Toth, Kim Lovett, Rosie Langdale, Emma Richards and Craig Simmonds went through their paces and were rewarded with the gold medal. Like last year it was the narrowest of margins between City and Scarboro, but this time the City team finished on the right side of the ledger.

Last events for the day were the First Aid championships. In the Open event, Brett Wakefield and Jane Scott teamed up for the silver medal while Janelle Slattery and Rosie Langdale finished fifth, but the Under 17's was the highlight. City won all three medals, with the gold taken out by Josh Walker and Jesse George, the silver by Roshann Davies and Preston Kelly, and the bronze by Kate Dromey and Chloe Mills. A great result and reward for the hours of work put in by coach Rik Lovett.
