Alicia Marriott has taken out the third round of the national Ironwoman series with a strong performance at Coolum, Queensland, on Saturday.
The format was an elminator, with two races. Eighteen competitors started in the first race, with only the first nine progressing to the second. Alicia crossed the line first in both races.
With a messy surf running, conditions weren't easy. But Alicia handled them brilliantly, catching great waves in every leg of the final to first establish and then maintain a commanding lead. She was even seen to be smiling as she ran from the water at the end to claim her first round win in several years of contesting the series.
The win is Alicia's third on the national stage this season, going with her Coolangatta Gold and Interstate Ironwoman victories.
After this win, Alicia sits in fourth place in the series overall.
