Record Turnout For Pounders Paddle
15th December 2007

The City Beach Pounders set a new record in their regular Saturday morning paddle this week. With a couple of major events coming up on their calendar, now is the time to get involved.

There is nothing like the lure of bacon and eggs on the balcony to get the Pounders out of bed and paddling. The promise of a breakfast after today's paddle to meet our new Rookie contingent saw a massive 35 paddlers hit the water. This eclipsed our previous record of 28 by 25% and now sets a challenge to see if we can hit the magic 40 mark.

Fifteen Rookies completed the four week introduction course and have now graduated to the main Pounder group. Almost half of the group were female and they will increase our already healthy number of female paddlers. There is also a small but select group of under 17 paddlers, who are very keen on their paddling and hopefully some of these will enter competitive ranks in the near future. Janelle Slattery is a great supporter of the Pounders and provides very strong support to paddling at City through getting her group of cadets involved. There is some potential here!

Next week is the Pounders Cup, one of our trophy events, which is a 13 km paddle to the Cottesloe Pylon and back. The following week we have our second Tupperware Challenge, a hugely popular fun event that is best described as dodgem cars on water. This event is open to any club member that is up for a bit of fun and starts at 7.00 am on Saturday the 29th December
