Last weekend 2007 The Year Of The Surf Life Saver came to a climax with the International Challenge and Interstate Championship at Bondi in Sydney. City was well represented in both events. Alicia Marriott and Dean Scarff were selected to represent Australia at the International Challenge event. Unfortunately a minor injury sustained at the Fremantle carnival meant that Dean had to withdraw from the team.
Alicia continued her outstanding form from the recent Coolangatta Gold and established herself as the board paddler to beat this season, winning two of the three board races. She also had the chance to test herself against some of the other nation's male board paddlers in the board relay, where she easily beat the British and American men and was only marginally behind the South African.
With former City member (now living in Queensland) Emma Wynne also in the team, there was a chance to reunite the board rescue team that won two Australian Under 19 Championships in 2004 and 2005. The pair still combine well, winning two of their three races.
All the City competitors performed well, and helped WA finish in third place overall behind NSW and Qld. Alicia Marriott continued to perform outstandingly, blitzing the field in the Board Race, coming in third in the Surf Race, then taking out the Ironwoman at the climax of the carnival.
The weekend also was the culmination of 2007 as the Year Of The Surf Life Saver. At the conclusion of the competition a March Past was held featuring the flags of clubs from all around the country, with the City of Perth flag prominent among them. Interstate Photos Video
