Nipper Marathon
13th February 2007

Last weekend the Nippers participated in their Club Marathon. The 8 - 10 year olds did a run, swim, and board paddle over an adjusted course that tested their endurance, bravery and fitness. Every participant in this age group that completed the course was awarded a commemorative medallion.

The 11- 14 year olds had a tougher course set out between the City Beach and Floreat groynes. They paddled boards from in front of the clubrooms to Floreat groyne, ran back, swam around a course set out with buoys, ran back to Floreat and returned by board to the start line. The emphasis was on completing the course and challenging themselves. The surf was quite big and the children's hard work throughout the season was obvious. They were fit, strong and read the surf conditions well.

The older children could also compete for the Club Marathon trophy awarded to the first person across the line. Zak Walker from the Under 13's won the day.

Next weekend City is hosting the Qualifying Carnival for the Junior State Championships and young surf life savers from around WA will be participating in events on the sand and in the surf on Saturday and Sunday at City Beach.
