The club Champion Lifesaver trophy was run on Saturday morning, with Ben Carrick winning the Men's title and Kim Lovett the Women's. The event tests competitors all-round lifesaving prowess as they complete a 40 question theory paper, are judged on resuscitation technique, and contest a surf race, board race, tube race and beach sprint. The changes to resuscitation have been incorporated into the event, and this was the first time the new rules have been put into action. The standard was generally high. In the Men's event, Ben Carrick took first place with Rupert Baker second and Under 15 debutant Jack Bishop in third. For the women, two times Australia Champion Kim Lovett won her first club Open title, ahead of Jess Cohen, Phoebe George and Kate Dromey. City's competitors will now move on to the State Championship, which will be held in three weeks time. Thanks to Bronwen Scott for help with officiating, and to WB1 and WB2 for putting out the cans.
