800 Metre Handicap
19th December 2004

A large field took to the water for this season's 800 Metre Handicap on Sunday.

It was a good day for the swim, with a south-easterly wind keeping conditions flat and unlike last year no complaints about stingers.

Some of the first away had reached the halfway mark as the last swimmers left the start line, but with the return leg coming into the wind the faster group at the back closed the gap and in the end most of the field finished within about 90 seconds of each other.

Robbie Jenkinson was first across the line, but as this was his first appearance for the season and he went off a handicap made up on the spot he was not eligible to win the event. Jeremy Doney was just behind him and claimed first place.

Not far behind, the fastest time in the event was recorded by Jono Stock, with Jacinta Marriott the fastest of the girls.
