Lisa Oldenhof's Australian Oympic K4 team finished sixth in their final of the K4 500 Metres, the best result Australia has ever had in this event.
The race was won by the German crew, an eighth gold medal for Birgit Fischer.
The Australian crew were in touch with the medals at the halfway mark, but couldn't maintain the pace and crossed sixth - less than two seconds away from the bronze medal. Australia's previous best in this event were eighths in both 1992 and 1996.
This brings to a close our members involvement at Athens. Lisa's sixth placing sits well with Todd Pearson's fifth and second in the pool.
