Australian Life Membership

Earlier this year, City Life Member Bill Gaynor was awarded the association's highest honour - Life Membership of Surf Life Saving Australia.

Bill joined the City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club on 15th November 1954 and gained his Bronze Medallion on 22nd December 1956. Over a period of 36 years, Bill has been an active member of Surf Life Saving Western Australia's Board of Examiners, and has also acted as a carnival official.

In 1982-83, Bill held the position of Deputy Superintendent for Western Australia before being elected to the Superintendent's role in 1983-84 – a position he held for 4 years. Bill has held numerous other positions at Club, State and National levels, including the club president at City from 1988 to 1991, and a National Councillor in 1983-84 and 1984-85. In 1985, Bill was awarded Life Membership of Surf Life Saving Western Australia.

In 1988, Bill received a World Lifesaving Citation of Merit, and was the recipient of an Order of Australia Medal in 1998 for his contribution to surf lifesaving.

Life Membership of City of Perth was awarded to Bill in 2001.
