Awards Of Excellence

Surf Life Saving W.A.'s Awards of Excellence winners were announced on Saturday night, with City featuring in the winners.

City had finalists in every category of the awards - an outstanding achievement in itself.

Dean Scarff

John Leivers was inducted into the S.L.S.W.A. Sporting Hall Of Fame. A legend of surf boats, Garb was a member of the Junior crew that won City's first Australian Championship at City Beach in 1971. In 1981, he was part of the crew that took Gold at the World Championships in Bali, and then were second at the 1982 Australian Championships. He has also won 35 State Championships in surfboats, march past, taplin relay, board relay, champion lifesaver and R&R events.

Jacinta Marriott

Jacinta Marriott was awarded Athlete of the Year after an outstanding season in which she won the Bernie Kelly Medal for her nine gold medals at the State Championships as well as gaining several top six placings and one bronze medal at the Aussies.

Dean Scarff

The Junior Athlete of the Year was won by Dean Scarff. Dean won four gold medals from four events at the State Championships, and two silvers at the Australian Championships.

Steve Cohen

Steve Cohen was awarded the President's Medal for outstanding contribution during the season. Although mostly seen starting surf races at carnivals, Steve also put in a lot of time behind the scenes in areas such as the Competition Review Committee and counselling.

Jane Scott and Paul Andrew

Bill Gaynor was awarded his Life Membership of Surf Life Saving Australia, the fifth City member to receive this honour.

City also won the Heywood Shield for Administration for the third consecutive year.

The Club was placed second to Albany in the Champion Club award.
