800 Metre Handicap
12th January 2003

This season's 800 Metre handicap swim was held in unseasonable January rain. The weather didn't worry Jake Cropper, however, as he took line honours in a fast event.

The field was top quality as City's State Team members had their final hitout before heading to the Interstate Challenge in Tasmania next weekend, and Olympic champion Todd Pearson made his return to surf competition.

With a strong southerly current running, the course was adjusted to take advantage. The field started approximately 600 metres south of the City groyne and swam with the current to finish in front of the clubrooms.

Jake Cropper established an early lead and couldn't be headed, finishing in just under eight minutes. Todd Pearson crossed the line second, about forty metres behind. Third to finish was Jono Stock, just ahead of Nipper James Cohen.

Emma Wynne was the first female home, ahead of Alicia and Jacinta Marriott.

The Handicap winner on adjusted times was Corey Tidey.*
