Dean Scarff is one of the most talented beach competitors to come through the club. The younger brother of 1994 World Beach Relay Champion Hisham, Dean won his first Senior State medal as an under 13 competing up in Under 16's. After three years of minor placings, he broke through with four gold medals in the 2003 State Championships, then went on to win Australian silvers in Beach Flags and Beach Relay.
Study commitments kept him away from the 2004 Australian Championships, but he returned in 2005 to win another silver in the Beach Sprint and Australian Gold, along with Iain Buchan, Hayden Trew and Craig Simmonds in the Under 19 Men's Beach Relay.
The 2006 season was almost entirely written off due to injury for Dean, but he managed to hold together enough to run the relays at the Australian Championships and win another Under 19 Relay Gold with Iain Buchan, Hayden Trew and Jake Loffman.
Dean had a relatively quiet season in 2007 but timed his return to form perfectly with a stunning win in the Open Men's Beach Sprint at the Australian Championships, as well as narrowly missing the medals in the Open Men's Beach Relay.
In 2007-08, Dean was selected in the Australian team for the International Challenge at Bondi, but again missed the event due to injury. At the State Championships Dean won his first Open Beach Flags title. At the 2008 Australian Championships Dean went close to defending his Beach Sprint title but finished with the Bronze medal. His Beach Relay team then went even closer to Gold - finishing second by the barest of margins.
After a season punctuated with more lowlights than highlights, in 2008-09 Dean again won bronze in the Open Men's Beach Sprint at the Aussies.
In 2010 Dean made it four consecutive Open Sprint medals, winning another bronze, and finished fourth in the Beach Flags.
