The March Past Event
March Past is one of Surf Life Saving’s original events and represents the traditional discipline of a surf lifesaver. Teams, dressed in club uniform, march in time to music around a set course carrying a surf reel, line and belt and following their flag bearer. Teams march in formation and are judged on factors such timing, arm and leg swing, dressing, body carriage and presentation.
It is also an opportunity to display the club identity and pride to the wider community.
City has long had a strong association with the event with our first marching championship coming in 1935. With 33 championships over 81 years of state competition, City is well ahead of all other clubs in numbers of titles won.
Whilst inter-club numbers have declined in recent seasons, the event remains a firm favourite with tourists and the media.
